The Hagar story: Water in the Wilderness
Welcome back lovelies 😉, I know you've read me write this alot, that being a single mom is a challenging journey that can feel overwhelming at times. You may feel like no one understands your struggles and that the weight of the world is on your shoulders, I'm beginining to sound like a broken record 🤦🏾♀️but hold on, stay with me and let's talk about Hagar shall we? 😁
In the Bible, Hagar was a slave girl who was given to Abraham's wife, Sarah, as a gift. Sarah was barren, and she asked Hagar to have a child with Abraham so that she could have a family. Hagar did as she was instructed and had a son named Ishmael. However, when Sarah miraculously became pregnant with her own child, Isaac, she became jealous of Hagar and cast her out into the wilderness with her son. Hagar was left all alone in the desert with no food or water.
Yes, this was not a pleasnt situation for Hagar I'm pretty sure she may have had her life planned out but life happened and that's what happens to the best of us, we have our lives planned out, timelines for every season and even roadmaps to achieving them but on our way there we are faced with road blocks and or rolling stones that spin us all the way down to rock bottom and we are left feeling all alone, just like Hagar in the wilderness thinking to ourselves there's no way out of here there's nothing left to do.
One thing I've have learnt and also read in Hagar's story is that God is always there, He never leaves even when we think we deserve what is happening in our lives. We say to ourselves 'God will not save me because I made the mistake of getting pregnant out of wedlock, I made the mistake of getting into an abusive marriage even after seeing all the signs, I made this mistake, I made that mistake and the list goes on. We blame ourselves, had we been wiser, had we been smarter, had we been more careful, we even start reading our family history and we believe the lies the enemy tells us but thankfully God is willing to save even the lawful captive. But in Hagar's story where was her mistake? Why did she have to suffer such a fate?
It does no good to cry over spilled milk, what's done is done all we can do is keep moving.
The good thing about hitting rock bottom is that there's only one place left to go and that's up, and so when Hagar was in despair in the wilderness thinking to herself that her son would surely die, God showed up and He opened her eyes to see and she saw a well of water. He promised her that her son would become the father of a great nation and gave her hope for the future. Hagar's story is a testament to the strength and resilience of women who face difficult circumstances. Despite being cast out by the people who should have cared for her, Hagar was able to endure and overcome her hardships. As a single mom struggling on your own, feeling helpless, let Hagar's story provide encouragement and hope that God sees you and is ready to intervene on your behalf. Today we celebrate the great nation that came out of Ishmael because God was with him, a son of a single mother.
Hagar's story inspires me so much. So when the devil comes with lies that our kids would be handicapped in life because they weren't raised by both parents together remind him of this story and consciously speak the promises of God over your kid(s) this is not a limitation but an advantage, the right situation for God to showcase His glory💃🏽💃🏽
Draw strenght from Hagar's story as I did, and quite frankly the Lord has opened my eyes to see alot of opportunities set before me. Ever wonder why the senses of a blind person seems to be way sharper than others? truth is when you find yourself in unpleasant situations there's an innate ability in you to make something out of it! so open your eyes sis, there's a well of water in that wilderness of yours!
God sees you and cares for you. You can trust in His promises and rely on Him for strength and perseverance.
Thanks for reading 😉
